Tips on Buying Cars - car registration problem

Expert: Ray Paulsen - 7/26/2008

Question
I bought a new car from out of state.  The dealer knew I live in California.  When I tried to register the car I found out it can't be registered in California because it isn't 50 state certified.  I have had it for 1 week.  What are my options?

Answer
Hi LyRae

I wish you would have crossed this link prior to purchase   http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffvr29.htm

The dealer knew and should have informed you, to me that spells misrepresentation, it really is a silly law when you look at exceptions on the site for buying out of state. study the site and google for some answers, if your still stuck let me know I got some contacts in CA that may be able to help.
