Expert: Shari - 10/28/2009

Question
My wife and I are purchasing a 2009 car.  We have narrowed it down to a 2009 Ford product with 100 KM on it.  The salesman mentions a deposit.  Is it normal that a deposit be put down?  Do you have any problems with a dealership requesting a deposit?  If you agree with one, what is normal amount.  Total price with everything included is $21,000.  Thank you Shari.

Answer
Hello Brian, The only reason you should put a deposit if it is a hard to get vehicle and they have to order it or buy it from anothet dealership. You are talking a deposit not a down payment I am assuming. Deposit is okay if you are dealing with a reputable dealer. You will get it back.
