Tips on Buying Cars - Alfa 159

Expert: Paul Stevenson - 6/29/2009

Question
Having owned a Toyota Starlet for 17 years without any problem at all, I still want to buy a new Alfa 159. I find it very appealing and the engine sounds terrific. My only concern is long-term credibility. I do not use car too often. Only 7-8,000 km per year. Still, will the Alfa stand the test of time with careful treatment?

Thank you

Answer
Dear Apostolos,

The Alfa 159 is definitely and emotional vehicle made for the driver who loves to drive.

Although Alfas have improved over the years, they are still not as reliable as your last Toyota.  There are many factors which effect reliability:

- How well the vehicle is maintained by the owner.
- How the vehicle is driven (i.e. aggressively, etc..)
- General reliability of the vehicle

Since you are a low mileage driver, you should be able to keep the car for a long while without problems.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Best regards,

Paul
