Tips on Buying Cars - Toyota-Nissan-Mistubishi

Question

I already have a Jeep Cherokee Limited 2001 US imported model and I am based in Kuwait. I feel I am duped by the earlier Arab owner. This vehicle seems to have existing engine problem which cost me $ 850 for engine overhaul and damaged valve and piston replacement repair work and now from recent past the steering freezing at slow speeds along with vehicle getting auto shutoff and I am fed up with all this. I feel I am approaching toward developing a car breakdown phobia soon.

Earlier I had planned of buying a new car, however was enticed by used car at cheaper value and regret it. In all this mess, Now, I have inherited fear of buying the right car especially suitable for hot climates in Middle East. My options for new cars are Toyota Yaris (Hatchback/Sedan) 1.5 L, Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6L GLX, Nissan Sunny 1.6L (All the models are with full options). After lot of research, I have decided to buy either of the model preferably exterior white color, beige interior, small size car for parking problem. My question is which is good choice and what are advantage over the other regarding engine capacity and performance.

Answer
Dear Anup,

Thank you for your question.  All models are fairly similar in terms of performance, but I think the Toyota Yaris would be the best choice considering reliability and durability.  I would recommend driving all 3 choices, and obviously your personal feelings after driving the vehicles is very important since you will be the one driving the vehicle every day.

However, with all things being equal, the Yaris is your best choice.  The Yaris was just rated the top choice for its vehicle class by J.D. Power, which is a customer satisfaction company highly respected throughout the world.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

In the future, buying a used car can be a very good choice, but I always recommend having the vehicle checked out by a certified mechanic to do a deep check to make sure there are no hidden problems.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Best regards,

Paul
