Tips on Buying Cars - upside down in my lease!!

Expert: Ray Paulsen - 6/15/2009

Question
Hi Ray, I lease an 06 G35x.  My last payment of $784 (tax in)is Oct 8 '09. I am presently 15,000 over my km and need to get out as the payments are killing me. I want to lease or buy an 2.5 Altima and lower my pymts to approx. half. Should I do this now or wait.I am dealing with Gen. Mgr of Nissan dealership and need advice fast. I don't know if the clock is ticking or I'm panicking. They are giving 1.9 fin. or lease rate. He's offering $573 tax in (finance) or 597 (lease)tax in both 0 down with trade in of G35 and upside down issues. Thanx!

Answer
Hi Lea

15,000 over on KM will be worse by the time Oct rolls around, what is the extra per KM charge ?, I assume you got 4 payments remaining ?, when these factors are added up and compared with dealers offer, we will then know if it's a good deal. I like the fact the dealer will deal with the km's, and I assume they will have the balance of outstanding payments build into the deal should you make a move at this time ?... finance is the way to go

If you want me to dig a little more into your question, then answer as follows

1, What is the term offered to finance
2, Which model have you been offered - 2.5S with or without the convenience package - or the 2.5SL package
3. your postal code
4, Are there any rebates or incentives included with this deal from the Mfg
5, When you say 0 down, I asume no hidden cost factors, such as Adm fees, gas taxes, PDI shipping
