Tips on Buying Cars - gm employee discount

Expert: Bud Ford - 6/12/2005

Question
Bud,

I was thinking about taking advantage of
the GM employee discount that is being
offered until July 5. Bud can you tell
     me if possible how much
a GM employee gets off a purchase of a
new vehicle, is it a standard figure,
or is done on a percentage etc., so I
can have a better understanding when I
     talk to the sales person.

                        Thanks
                          Dom

Answer
Dominick this is a great question.  Wish I had a great answer, BUT, since I have not heard or read the fine print I can not tell you what the exact discount/rebate should be.  Normally GM has a plan called the A plan or some other name which is normally given to retired employees and their family.  This is normally, or at least used to be, 5 percent of the retail price of the vehicle less shipping and some other charges.  They also had other plans and programs but I think five percent was pretty much the average.  This sounds great until you look at the incentives they are offering on certain vehicles, many thousands of dollars.  Before I went to the dealership I would go to edmunds.com and spec out the exact vehicle you want and then click on the link for discounts, etc.  This should give you the information.  In any case, best of luck and let me know how you come out.  Bud
