I have over 30 years experience in the design, manufacturing, and testing of tires. I have served as the technical advisor to the "800" number. I have authored or co-authored many publications - usually without credit. I can answer almost any technical question, but please don`t ask me to compare brands. I probably have prejudices because of my work experience.

Subject: Should I really have to replace my tires every 30-40,000 miles

Question
I purchased a 2005 Hondy Odessey in July of 2005. One of the main features on the vehicle is the PAX System (Run-flat tires). I am single mom so that's great right.??? At 30,000 miles May of 2006, I am fighting because all 4 tires are bold. To add insult to injury, the only companies authorized to do maintainance on the vehicle is the Honda Dealer and Discount Tire.  No one else is authorized to work on this Pax System.. The manufacture claims they don't state expected milage on tires and faugth with me on taking some responsiblity on poor manufacturing. The dealer doesn't want to replace the tire but the entire wheelbase - rim and all and charge me $400 each. I get new tires because the manufacture agreed to reimburse 50% cost of tire not labor(which is a hour and a half for each tire, I was told because of the electrical system used).  Now it's June 2007 I have 70,000 miles on the vehicle and all four tires are showing the white threads. I drive a minivan for crying out loud, I am not doing circles in nobody's parking lot. How can I handle this? Do I have any rights to go back to the manufacture again?

Answer
Belinda,

You always the right, but you have 70,000 miles on your vehicle and that dilutes any arguement you might make.

You may want to do a search on the internet and see what you may find.  I understand there are others who are disatisfied with the PAX system and perhaps there is some benefit in presenting a unified front.
