Expert: Barry Smith Date: 6/16/2008 Subject: tire cupping on a towed jeep
Question I tow my jeep wrangler behind my motorhome on all 4 wheels using a tow bar. After just 2500 miles I am getting uneven wear and cupping on the front tires, What can I do to prevent this?
Answer Chris,
Cupping is caused by misalignment and aggravated by insufficient inflation pressure and insufficient rotation practices.
So get an alignment. BTW, find a shop that recognizes that alignment specs are too wide as published. They should know that the alignment has to be within the inner half of the tolerance to prevent this type of wear. If they don't know this, find another shop.
