Subject: Ambulance Tires

Question
We bought new ambulances from a company that has never sold to "rural districts". This meant for us that our new $125,000 ambulance will top out at 75mph because of the tires only being rated for 75mph and therefore the governor in the ambulance being set for 75 mph. I can't find any tires that will fit the rig that are rated for higher speeds that we need. The tire size is 225-70-R19.5 and we can even go with a larger tire if needed because we have enough clearance under the rig.

Answer
Bryan.

I'm afraid that I can't give you a specific answer to this question.  However, I believe that Continental, Bridgestone and I think Michelin do offer radial medium truck tires in speed rated versions.  You may want to contact these companies customer support departments for more info.

Good Luck,
Brett
