Subject: Towing a All wheel drive Subaru from UT to PA

Question
Hi Richard,

I will be moving soon from UT to PA. I have an all wheel drive Subaru Forester and I am on a tight budget. It saves me $200+ to rent the tow dolly with the moving truck, but renting the tow carrier is "recommended" by the rental company for my car.  Will using the dolly hurt my all wheel drive car?

Thanks,

Steve

Answer
While this question is out of my MAIN AREA OF EXPERTISE, think about the whole issue...

All wheel drive means that all 4 wheels turn when there is a loss of traction...  Tow it on a dolly and the back wheels will turn and the fronts will not...

Will it damage the vehicle, I would bet on it burning out the transmission or worse...
