About Ted Ritter
Expertise I have more than 26 years experience as toyota technician, I will be able to answer most questions related to the toyota product line up to the present year models, I specialize in difficult to diagnose problems but when posting a question please keep in mind that some situations require the used of special test equipment and diagnostic procedures especially as the newer models become more technologically advanced, so without actually having the car on hand I may only be able to try to steer you in the right direction and in some cases may have to refer you to the toyota dealer but at least you will know what you may be dealing with. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, I will have an answer for you in most cases. When posting a question keep in mind that I reside in the US, although I get questions from all over the world I may not have an answer for models that are not sold in the US, I will do a reasonable search to try to match your model to the US model, please refrain from asking about diesel powered vehicles, I have no information for them. In most cases I will not answer questions about major modifications of OEM components, engine swapping or aftermarket products, please post a question not a statement, please provide enough basic information such as year, model, what engine and if anything has already been done to fix the problem, the more information I get the more I can help without having to ask you more questions.

Question Thanks in advance for your time. I have an '02 Tundra V6 SR5 AT 4X2 displaying DTC 0770 for which there is a TSB (EG024-02#. The original tranny went without warning at 48k, dealer replacement began whining at 109k with MIL actuating and deactivating itself within 10 to 100 miles with increasing frequency.hen I would check for DTC, it was always 0770. The truck generally shifted in and out of OD normally with the exception of a narrow RPM range on slight grades # never loaded). I I would ignore it were it not preventing me from passing a state inspection. When second tranny was installed by independent shop, they neglected to replace solenoid per my request. Unfortunately I was due out of state the next day for several months or face unemployment. No MIL for nor noticeable shifting problem for 3k. It is my understanding that shift solenoid E is the OD solenoid. Before I put second tranny in I had one shop clean screen and check shift solenoid. hey stated solenoid functioned normally. While on the road with a few hours available I had a dealer in TX check and they indicated that I would need to replace ECM before they could tell me anything. Could you possibly advise as to how to proceed. Sorry for the lengthy post.
Answer This code is usually caused by a failing lock-up torque converter not the solenoid, the disintegrating torque converter starts to deposit metal particles into the transmission fluid causing the solenoid to set a trouble code. These transmissions of the early tundra's had a history of chronic problems.
