Track & Field - 400m and 800m

Expert: Ross Dunton - 7/10/2008

Question
I have just turned 16 and weigh about 70kg. My main race is the 800m, however I am very keen to improve my 400m time as well. It is now 55s. My 800m time is 2:04s. I have just started a 9 month training programme that involves quite heavy running and a bit of gym work. I am very tall for my age 6ft 3 and am wanting to bulk up for my running. What is the best way to do this? Could you give me an idea of a diet, supplements, gym work?etc. what would you recommend is the best way to get bigger and stronger?
many thanks
Jamie

Answer
Jamie,
Don't bulk up because that will cause you to gain a lot of weight. If do you get you will run slower. Eat what you usually eat and don't take any supplements. For your gym work do what you usually do. As you get older you will get bigger and stronger.
