Question Hey I'm a highschool long/middle-distance runner and i run about 50-70miles a week but dont seem to get any better in the cross-country stuff. The people that I beat during track season, i just cant seem to hang with them in the 5k in cross-country. What should i do different training wise?
Answer Hello AJ, it is not the amount or number of miles you run, yet it is how you run them. Maybe you have to run some of the miles more according to how you race or compete. Believe me, the good/great runners not only put in the miles, yet they prepare themselves mentally and they train in a way to help them compete. Remember, you train so you can race and compete well. Keep that in mind. What difference does it make if you are running 100 miles a week if you are doing them all at 11 minute mile pace. You get my point. SOmetimes you have to train in ways that will help your performance. Listen to your coach, I am sure he/she knows how to get you were you need to be. DO not give up or quit. We all develop at different times. And remember, if you plant a seed today, do you expect it to bear fruit tomorrow? No. It's the same with training.
