Tractor Repair - massey-ferguson MF65 transmission

Expert: Big Dean - 2/12/2004

Question
My MF65(1959?) is stuck in 2nd gear. Never had the problem before! The high/low range shift works. What can I do without taking the transmission apart?

Answer
Hi Richard
Park the tractor on a level spot take the high low lever out of gear to relieve any pressure that is on the main transmission gears. Remove the transmission filler plug look in the hole you can see the second & third gear shift fork. With a big screwdriver or a small pry bar pry the shift fork forward to the neutral position if you pry it to far it will go into third gear you should be able to feel the detent pop in the neutral groove as you pry it forward. I have done this 1000s of times it is a very common problem on those tractors. If You have further questions Email me at [ daustin62@aol.com ]  My Massey Ferguson web site has some good tips on it also [ http://hometown.aol.com/bigdean62/index.html ] Big Dean
