About Trey McGowan
Expertise I am able to answer questions about transexual and transgender issues of many kinds, but in particular those tilted toward the FTM (Female-To-Male) transgender. I can offer tips for dressing, passing, binding, packing, behavior, and the like for both drag and full lifestyle. I may also be able to offer some help with finding local peer groups, should you be interested in peer counseling. Sexuality issues, MTF (male-to-female), and other gender issues can also be touched on and I may be able to help.
I am not a professional (I repeat: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL!) but I can also offer some general peer counseling suggestions and help with finding groups for all branches of gender identification and sexuality. If you are in need of finding a professional, I may be able to find a name in your area to help.
Experience I am personally FTM transgender, living full-time and accepting of my gender identity. I have not yet been through operations (so am unable to offer personal experience on most of these). I have been part of a number of groups, though moving has kept discussions to long distance since then. I am well-studied for a great many years in this area, having begun reading up on it when I first identified and having kept up on it since then. I have no medical credentials in the area of gender counseling but have been part of multiple peer counseling groups.
Organizations Knox Boyz (FTM peer support group)
Nashville T'men (FTM peer support group)
Education/Credentials I have completed grade school, some high school, and my GED.

Expert: Trey McGowan - 9/17/2008
Question Oh God were do I start,Im now 30 years old.Never found the right time.So I just came out to my parents and brothers on Sep,10 2008.After a un-successful attempt suicide"the gun jammed".I want to seek help to change my sex.
Question> does my insurance cover sex change.I have Blue cross
Answer Hi there, Fidel!
First thing that you should worry about your Blue Cross covering is a therapist in the area. Without that help, you can't go into *any* doctor who accepts Blue Cross and expect to get your operation. In addition, the therapist can help you find individuals who will take Blue Cross with a situation like this.
Unfortunately, the sad part: it's not always covered, and in fact there may well be a better chance that it *isn't*. You will want to 'shop around', so to speak, and investigate the various doctors in your area. However, there are a great many TG individuals who have had to save up their money for operations.
Now, I'm not saying that it won't be covered, but the sad fact is that a lot of medical individuals will read this sort of operation as 'elective'. In other words, this is something that won't be covered. So make sure you do research into the doctors, make sure you have a good therapist who can write you proper letters of recommendation, and you may want to invest in a lawyer who is willing to work with your unusual circumstances.
I wish you all the best luck in this endeavor! Any questions, comments, feedback, follow-ups, et cetera, are well welcome!
Trey
