Subject: Travelling in north during second week of july

Question
Hi,

I am planning for a 4 day trip to the destination which can be reached by an over night journey like shimla/masuri+dehradu/vaishnov devi/haridwar+rishikesh during first week of july. Can you tell me is that a good idea to go to any place in north during this time? And can you suggest which one from the above will be good to visit in July?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Ruta,

July is the monsoon season so your best option would be Shimla or Massourie. You may also want to consider Kufri, Chail or Narkanda. All these places are close to Shimla but are slightly away from the main touristy spots and have a few good hotel options.

Try http://www.himachaltourism.nic.in/hotdir/hotkhoj.asp to find a decent place.

July is the summer/monsoons period in north so you will see a lot of people heading to the hill stations, so it may be a good or bad time depending on what you are looking for (solitude or doing the touristy things).

I wouldl not recommend haridwar+rishikesh as it might be hot & humid so it wouldnt be that pleasant. Vaishno devi trip is a totally different thing, as it is not a vacation rather a religious trip so I would not consider it in the same category as the others. Non the less for Vaishno devi, you can expect plenty of rains during the 8-9 km walk up to the shrine.

Hope you have a good trip, let me know if u need more info.

cheers,
Shivom.
