Me and a friend are planning to travel to India arriving in Delhi on 19th August. We are planning to travel around the Golden Triangle for 10 days and then head to Sikkim (seeing Darjeeling on the way). Please could you let me know whether you think that this would be possible at this time (start of September) considering the monsoon or whether we would be better off considering other options.
Thanks for your help
Jenny
Answer Hi Jenny,
August should be OK although it will be quite hot and humid for the Golden Triangle. So make sure you have air conditioned transport and night accommodation. The monsoons are not heavy in that part of the country and you should be ok. They only add to the humidity.
I would advise you to take a re-look at Darjeeling because of some political troubles going on in that region although they flare up and then die down again only to flare up again. Although there is no danger to life or limb but you may have to deal with delays and disruptions in transport. The monsoon will be quite heavy in the east of the country in August and early part of September there should be good.
