Travel in India - Indian travel

Question
We are a couple in our early 50s who would like to travel in India July/August 2009 by rail. We are not looking for luxury travel and have experience of hostels in Malawi, Tanzania, Chile, Bali and Lombok in recent years visiting our children.  However, we would prefer hotels now.  Will the weather be an issue at that time of year?  We have approx 3 weeks to spend in the country and would like to see as much as possible.  Thank you in advance for you advice.

Answer
Hi Mr. Gill,

Weather in July/August would be humid and rainy in most parts India, so I would recommend traveling and staying in air conditioned place. There are a lot of competent and reasonable indian travel websites through which you can make your reservations like travelmasti.com or yatra.com, you can take a look at the offered itineraries and packages offered by these kind of sites. I would also suggest to avoid Mumbai and the western coastal areas at this time due to the heavy rains and the possibility of getting stuck there due to heavy rains.

There is also an IndRail that the Indian railways offers which allows you to travel unlimited in the indian railways for a fixed duration of the pass.

Hope you have a good trip!
Shivom.
