Travel with Pets - Moving from Spain to US with a Hamster

Expert: jerry mishler - 6/28/2008

Question
We are moving back to the US after living in Spain for a year and we want to bring my daughters hamster back with us.  Is it the same procedure as dogs/cats?  Rabies certificate, health certificate, microchip?

Thank you,
Brian

Answer
Microchips are NOT required for ANY pet for entry into USA.
They do NOT give Hamsters rabies vacs.
Check locally with the airline you travel on as to bringing the
Hamster back as excess baggage. (NOT in the cabin) The airline can
give you update as to requirements.  You should not have a problem.
If the airline does not allow as ex bag, then check with their
cargo office.
Regards, Jerry Mishler
