Subject: Bringing dog from Russia to Guyana

Question
QUESTION: Hi, Jerry!

We are going to bring our dog from Russia to Guyana this September. He is not microchiped and we have no ability to make blood test for him, but he is vaccinated against rabies last October.
Can we travel with him through UK?
Our route comes through London and Barbados, and we need to transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick.

Could you please advise, what to do to avoid 6-month quarantine.

Thank you very much in advance!

ANSWER: Dear Andrey
If you were just transiting Heathrow you would NOT need to worry
about UK regulations.  Using two different airports, I know you can
NOT do it yourself.
I have a link to DEFRA from my website.  Contact them.  Also,
visit:  www.ipata.com   and contact some of the pet shippers in
UK.  These sources should be able to tell you how it can be done, if
possible.
Can you NOT get to Guyana by any other route other than UK?
Going thru any other EU country you would not have a problem.
Let me know how this works out.
Regards, Jerry Mishler

P.S.
What airline are you flying on from Russia? From Moscow?
Here are various options you might not have thought of:
Soviet airlines direct from Moscow to New York City JFK; connect to
Delta or Caribbean Airlines - BW to Georgetown
Delta from Moscow to JFK  also DL to Georgetown  GEO
British Air from Moscow to London Heathrow; again, BA from LHR to
JFK; to BW  (not going out of Gatwick)
Lufthansa from Moscow via Frankfurt to either JFK or Miami; then
connect to BW
KLM via Amsterdam to JFK
Air France via Paris to JFK
Remember:  Going thru UK, the dog MUST travel as cargo, NOT excess
baggage, which will be more expensive and complicates the whole
situation.
There will be NO problem transiting the USA.  No microchip necessary.
Come September, Delta should not have their usual hot outside temps
embargoes in effect.  Going one airline ALL the way, certainly would
be best.  On ALL these suggestions I have made, you should be able
to bring the dog as ex bag (except thru UK)  I do not know what
requirements for entry into Guyana might be.
Hope this helps.   Jerry

QUESTION: Jerry, thank you very much for your answer!

But there is a problem. I tried to get US Visa and was rejected without any explanation. I am afraid, but we can not go through USA.

I have one more alternate. To go through Surinam. But in this case I will flight from Saint-Petersburg, Russia to Amsterdam, Netherlands and then with connection flight to Paramaribo, Surinam.
May be, you know anything about custom rules and pet-transit requirements in these countries? I will appreciate very much if you can help me once again.

Thank you in advance!

Answer
I thought you could transit USA without visa so long as you do not
leave the security part of the airport.  Did you check this out?
Otherwise you will need to contact the embassies or consulates of
the various countries you will pass thru and enter.  Sorry I do NOT
know about customs of these countries.  Enough to try to keep up with
US Customs!!!

Sorry I can not help more
Good luck   Jerry
