Question
hi,
I've a year old pet Lab..I'm moving to US for higher studies within an year, and dont want to leave my pet home, dependent on my parents. Are students allowed to keep pets? At what cost?

Answer
I do NOT know of any reason a student can not bring their pet with
them.  All you need is a health cert issued within 10 days of travel.
Also, a valid current rabies vaccination, at least 30 days old and
less than 1 year.
Check with the airline as to bringing the pet with you as excess
baggage versus cargo which is more expensive.
Only possible problem will be regarding your housing.  They may or
may not accept pets.  If it is school housing check with the school.
School housing may very well not accept pets.  You might need to
arrange for your own private housing.  I can NOT address this issue
for you.....  Having a larger dog will be more difficult than if you
had a small dog or cat.
Wish I could help you more...
Regards, Jerry Mishler
