Subject: Transit in Munich with cat

Question
I have a 6-yr old cat from the US.  For the last year we have been living in the Republic of Georgia.  The end of August we will be returning to the US with our cat.  To make travel easier, in Munich we will have a room at the airport hotel for several hours.  We have a current rabies shot and passport for our cat, but we do not have a microchip.  Will we have a problem taking our cat out of the Munich airport to the hotel for the 7 hours we are in Munich?  We already have her airline ticket on Lufthansa and the hotel is okay with having her in the room.

Answer
I am sorry, but you will need to discuss this with Lufthansa.
My understanding is that if you take any pet outside the airport,
that is, clearing customs, and then re-entering for your outgoing
flight, that you will need to meet German requirements for full
entry into Germany.  That is, microchip and EU 998 form.
Coming from Georgia might also require having the blood titre tests
and wait of 3 months.  This could be a VERY difficult process for you.
Somehow, you MUST discuss this with Lufthansa, and if possible, the
German customs officials.
Regards, Jerry Mishler
