Question
QUESTION: my primary 'stopper' for flying to vietnam within the next 3-6 months is not knowing if i would be putting my cats life in jeopardy. she is persian, 12yrs old. she is shy and nervous by nature and requires being close to me. she is in good health and will have all of her shots.

how much red tape and costs are involved also. thanks so much. contacts would be appreciated.

ANSWER: Dear Phyllis
I have NO idea where you are, or where you will be flying from.....
What flight plans do you have?
With more info I might be able to assist

QUESTION: so appreciate your prompt reply. I go standby..from PHoenix, AZ. late oct..to mid nov. i realize airlines allow only a few pets on.i don't know about united yet.  being a long international flight i was hoping taking her 'standby' would not be a problem..on United. i know some airlines are more pet friendly. she cannot go other than in cabin with me. she has a doll-faced nose..breathing is said to be difficult in those animal holding places.  i have a suitcase for pets with wheels and net windows.  i most dislike having to deal with the paperwork so far ahead when i am flexible. the shots i should wait i understand can be had the last wk. i would do min. and maybe 2 wks would give her time to heal better.?

I believe United goes first to hong kong, then to vietnam. i am concerned kitty and i might need to stay overnite for 1-3 days to recover before departing for Saigon. i worry if i will have to go thru the expense and hassle of paperwork if i stop in hong kong or wherever the first stop might be.
i am seeking others experiences...is it really an okay idea?  i want to be gone for several months and she cannot deal with being alone or with cat sitters. we have tried that several times. she is too well bonded with me.
i am half xpat. so any connections would be great.

thanks so very much for your support.

Answer
Is it United all the way to Vietnam?  Any delay in Hong Kong will
certainly require a pet shipper there due to their quarantine, etc
You will NOT be able to disembark and stay in Hong Kong with the cat.
You should make every effort to get to Vietnam as quickly as
possible.
Do run this by United very carefully.  I question that you can
even take the cat in the cabin to or thru H.K.
United can answer this better than I.  Should you need assistance
in H.K. I will recommend someone to you.
Wheels on the kennel is usually a no-no.  Again, ask United.
She will need to have a rabies shot that is at least 30 days old
and less than 1 yr.
Try to avoid standby, because pets need to be pre-booked due to
space limitations.  Again, ask United
Regards, Jerry
