QUESTION: We would be flying into San Diego, but since we don't have an itinerary yet, we're not sure if we'll have to go through Seattle or LAX.

Answer
What ever you do, try to skip Tokyo.  Very easy to do.  Fly United from Osaka direct to
San Francisco.  Then, there are several UA flights to San Diego.
You will need to fly All Nippon from Naha to Osaka.
I know the military will give you a problem.  If you go via Tokyo, you may fly into Haneda then
need to get to Narita on your own.  There won't be any customs for you to worry about.
Jerry
