Travel with Pets - Taking dog from Pakistan to US
Expert: jerry mishler - 11/4/2009
Question I adopted a black lab while serving in Islamabad, Pakistan for a year - a US trained counter-narcotics dog who was abused, mistreated, and going to be put to sleep because they could ill afford to maintain him. He is doing great now and has all vaccinations, etc.
I'm flying into Washington Dulles airport and live in VA. Is there a quarantine requirement (if so, how long, what cost, etc) and what documentation do I need to have to execute the transport?
Thank you.
Don
Answer If you can bring the dog with you as excess baggage, do so. MUCH cheaper and would clear
customs with you. You would make these arrangements with the passenger reservation people of the
airline you travel on. What are your travel plans? If going via UAE, the dog would have to
travel ONLY as cargo. If you can, travel on Qatar Air via Doha to Dulles.
If you must ship as cargo, you will need a known shipper due to TSA regulations here.
Contact www.carrypackers.com in ISB info@carrypackers.com
There are at least four agents in Doha who can help. visit: www.ipata.com for their info
There is NO quarantine in USA All you need is a health cert issued within 10 days of travel and
a valid rabies vac
I can help with any local transport you might need at this end. What would be the final
destination?
In any case, ALL travel arrangements MUST be made in ISB. Can NOT be done elsewhere.
Cargo charges will be based upon outside dimensions of shipping kennel.
Hope this helps to get you started. Hope I can further help
