Travel with Pets - importing a 31/2 month old kitten from germany to california

Expert: jerry mishler - 11/5/2009

Question
hello. i am planning a vacation to california and would like to take my 3 1/2 month old kitten with me.i would like to know exactly what is needed for her and do the airlines require maybe other vaccinations etc. thanks for any help!

Answer
The important thing here is that you plan properly for your return to Germany.  Entry into USA
is very easy.  Health cert issued within 10 days of travel.
Also, at this age, best if cat has rabies vac.  Should be at least 30 days old, but you can get
around it.  Best if you have EU pet passport issued in Germany.  This will require the
microchip, etc.  Your local vet can best advise for re-entry requirements.
No other vacs are required for this travel, BUT, I would highly recommend cat be fully
vaccinated,
Jerry
