Question
Hi Lisa,

Thank you for answering to my first post so quickly.  I stopped by the vets yesterday and he wanted to know if the U.S. requires anything us before to entry?  For example, blood work.  Your first message was so insightful I hope you can also help explain why it's so easy to bring pets into the U.S.  This is almost a shock to me.  Thank you again.  Take care.

Answer
Hi Paula,
Here is the 2 US gov. sites that will put you and your vets mind at ease and explain requirements for cats. 1st one is "USDA Aphis" and the 2nd one is "Center for Disease Control"

<a href="http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/animal_imports_pet>

<a href="http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/cats.html">

Hope this helps. I really do not know why it is so easy to bring pets to the USA other than we are not considered a Rabies Free country and usually the country or islands where the regulations are so very strict are classified Rabies Free and they do not want to loose this status.

Expertise

My main focus is teaching pet owners how to choose and properly prepare an airline carrier kennel for a safe and comfortable trip. I can answer any questions on the subject of purchasing an airline approved carrier or kennel. I can also answer questions on how to modify or prepare an existing pet carrier kennel to be safe and considered airline compliant. Also any questions on how to ship a pet domestically in the USA. I can not answer questions on required paperwork for importing or exporting pets internationally.

Experience

My experience includes owning and running a Luxury Cat Care Facility since 1997 - Kitty Cat Condos. While running the facility I have used my daily pet experiences to invent and develop many pet travel products, many of which are Patented. The most well known is DryFur® Travel Pads. I now run a blog dedicated to sharing free information to pet owners who are often overwhelmed with the task of traveling on airlines with their beloved pets.
