About Jeff Lutton
Expertise
My expertise is how to handle pets when you travel and can't take them with you. How to pick a good kennel, dog day care or overnight facility. Should I leave with friends or have a dog walker come into my home. How do I know that my pet will be taken care of properly?

Experience
I have had a dog since I was 3 years old. In my professional life I was traveling quite a bit so my dog boarded more often that I would have liked. I got tired of the corporate world and now own a doggie day care and overnight facility. My expertise is in how to pick a kennel for your pet when you travel.

Travel with Pets - my dog drools

Question
i have a dog who loves to ride in cars but everytime i take her for a ride she starts drooling alot and i mean alot at first i thought it was cause she was to hot but i put her in front of the air and she still drools.what do you think is causing it?

Answer
Assuming your dog doesn’t have a medical problem such as a gum infection, a dog that drools in the car is usually from nervousness, which may appear to be excitement.  Many dogs will drool immediately after being put in the car, even before the car is moving or turned on.  For some dogs the drooling leads to car sickness but this is not always the case.
A couple things to try:
Crating in the car, this gives them a safe place to ride.
Practice. Putting the dog in the car at times when you go nowhere, or just for short jaunts around the block will help ease the nervousness of the dog.
Time. Many dogs outgrow this, especially if it occurs as a puppy.
I heard ginger works for motion sickness (I have never tried this) or motion sickness pills before your trip.

I hope this helps.
