Travel to Spain - 6 days in Spain

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 10/5/2008

Question
We will be arriving in Malaga on Oct. 21 and departing on Oct. 27. Our original plan was to stay in Southeren Spain but are now thinking of possibly heading to Madrid and /or Barcelona. Any suggestions on an itinerary and affordable accomodations?

Answer
Hello Tawnya

For 6 days i would stay in the south of Spain. Andalucia is a big region and have some of the most interesting destinations in Spain, such as Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba.

With 6 days you could explore these cities as well as Malaga.
Madrid and Barcelona deserves at least 2 days each and if you consider the time to get to one of the two, you'll be using three days at least.

If your original plans don't inlcude visiting Andalucia, then it's perfectly possible to get to Madrid or Barcelona for a few days.

Barcelona is about 1000km from Malaga, so your reasonalbe options are:
Flying: check prices with several compnaies, there is vueling low cost too.
Overnight train: there is an overnight train to Barcelona with renfe that would save you the cost of an hotel night and many time as it's a long trip.

Madrid: is about 500km, you have flights too but no low cost,so here the best option, in my opinion, are the high speed trains, that takes you to Madrid in 3hours. The bad news is that for the day 24 and 23 there are almost no offers available and the chepest ticket is about 70euros.

By bus is cheaper but takes 6h

If you don't know which one to choose, both cities have many things to offer. Barcelona may need 2 or 3 days for the city and have nice daytrips to do, Madrid may be 1 or 2 days for the city and 3 if you add museums and have very good daytrips to offer. Both have great nightlife. May be for just a weekend Barcelona could be a better option.

To find accomodation suitable to your need use some of the following sites:
http://www.tripadvisor.com
with reviews from other tourist, use the forums too.

also
http://www.hotelsearch.com/
for hostals (cheaper than hotels normally)
http://www.infohostal.com/

and these sites, that have huge lists of hotels and add reviews from users.
http://www.booking.com
http://es.venere.com/

i hope this helps a bit
