I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - Costa Brava overnight train--accommodations

Question
Hello,
I'd like to take the overnight train from Barcelona to Madrid, and before buying the tickets online, have a few questions for you.
1.  Do you know how many bunk beds are in one berth?  My boyfriend doesn't want to share a berth with anyone else.  2.  Also, if I were to buy the 'First' tickets--which I guess is 1st class--are there comfortable seats to sleep in?
3.  Lastly, does the train make stops throughout the night and do I have to change trains at all?

I appreciate your help.
Jodi

Answer
Hello Jodi

Haven't used that train but from what i have read in some forums and here
http://www.renfe.es/estrella/index.html
with a rough translation:
"you may choose between three diffent options, beds, bunks and seated"

"cabin for beds are individual or double in Grand class or First Class"
"bunks are in departments for a maximum of 6 people, for women, men or mixed; purchasing tickets individually or for all th departmen in the modality of group/family"

1: 6 bunks per cabin, your boyfriend should share it with as much as 5 other men.
2: For seated places,
"departments have seats with sliding backs, individual light, Control Panel of lighting system and conditioned air"
i have no information wether  they are confortable or not and the differences between tourist class and first class. In theory 1st class should have more space.
I couldn't find any review on it.

3:yes the train do several stops, and no, you don't have to change trains.

Finally, notice that this overnight train arrives to Madrid-Chamartin station, not Atocha as the high speed trains doing this route.

i hope this helps a bit
