Question
Hello Victor,

We plan a traintrip trough France and Spain by local trains.
Nowhere can I find info in english about getting from Ax-les-Thermes in France to Barcelona by way of Puigcerda and Ribes de Freser. Can you help us out?

Answer
Hello Irma

Yes, there is a train linking france and spain through Puigcerda.
It's a train hard to find in the Renfe website, it's not among the international trains, it's not in the list of trains, despite it's a kind of regional train given the distance, and it's not in the maps of commuter trains but it is in the schedules for the commuter trains of Barcelona.

This train must be something between a regional and a commuter train.

Origen: La Tour de Carol (in france close to the border)
Destino: Barcelona (several stations available)

From Aix-les-Thermes you should get to La Tour de Carol with sncf trains and from there take the renfe regional train to Barcelona

If you try to get the schedules for this train from La Tour or from the nearby station Puigcerda (in the spanish side) you get none in the website, that's because this line is closed for renovation since 14 april and for 7 months. There is an alternative bus service linking La Tour, Puigcerda, and some other stations with Ribes de Freser where the train works normally.

To get the schedules of this line

purple coloured: service done by bus
green coloured: from monday to friday
pink coloured: only saturdays, sundays and holydays

i hope this helps.
