I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - Car from San Sebastian to Cadaques

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 6/25/2008

Question
Hello Victor
We plan to drive from San Sebastian to Cadaques in one day in mid-September.  Can you tell me the best route to take and how long the drive is likely to be?  Many thanks.

Answer
Hello Vicky

I have used the michelin website, that for most of the times i have used it has proven to give the best route and accurate information on driving times and aproximate cost in tolls and gas. But i always check it to confirm my first opinion about the best possible route.

With this link, choose Donotia-San Sebastian (Guipuzcoa province).

Surprisingly any route (shortest, fastest, cheapest, recommended...) pass trough france. That makes sense since both places are near the border. Going only through Spain, you would have to get to Zaragoza, then Barcelona and then along the coast to the north, doing many more km than through France. And most of the highways in this route in Spain are with tolls, so it's not much cheaper than the tolls paid in France.

The recommended route by Michelin are 630km and will take you about 6h.

The spanish-side route (s sebastian-Pamplona-Zaragoza-Barna-Cadaques)
are 7h30 for 740km.

I hope this helps.
