I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - How to get from Pamplona to Porto?

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 6/23/2008

Question
What is the best way to get from Pamplona, Spain to Porto, Portugal?  Is there an overnight/train bus?  What company?  Can I book online?  I'll be traveling during the Running of the Bulls Festival this year.

Answer
Hello Vindya

There is no direct train, and no easy solution by train, probably will need three trains.

Take a look at this map from the portuguese website
http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=96fed5abe2a74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c...

you can see taht there is a line to Hendaya(Irun in the spanish side) from Lisboa, once in Portugal you may take another train to Porto (Oporto in spanish)

I think best option by train should be  Pamplona->San Sebastian/Donostia->Pampilhosa->Porto.

Another option is Pamplona->Vigo and from there to Porto, but the only train arrives at 23h to Vigo, a bit late and i couldn't find updated information on the train Vigo-Oporto and may be not being working regularly.

The train linking Portugal with France is called SudExpresso (or Surex by renfe http://www.renfe.es)
http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=1bae6e29d6b74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c...

look at the timetables, notice Portugal is GMT and Spain is GMT+1.
Train leaves San Sebastian at 22.20.
You could take TALGO 00533 at 18.42 in Pamplona , arriving to San Sebastian at 20.41.

Sudexpresso arrives to Pampilhosa at 8.38 from where you could take another train to Porto.

By bus

unless there are some special buses for San Fermin, there is no direct connection between Porto and this part of Spain.
I recommend to seek some combination suitable for you using these websites
http://www.condasa.com/
http://www.alsa.es
http://www.movelia.es/
http://www.internorte.pt/

also a combination of train+bus could be the best option.

I hope this helps a bit.
