Travel to Spain - Travel from Spain to Lisbon by Train

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 6/25/2008

Question
Hi Víctor -

I am from Puerto Rico and traveling to Spain and combining this trip to Lisbon.  I believe the best way to get to Lisbon is thru rail.  My question is, from which part of Madrid should I take the rail.  What are the schedule options.  By the way, I am arriving to Madrid the 29 of July.

I will highly appreciate your response.

Thank you

Answer
Hello Jannette

The only train to Lisbon is the international Lusitania, an overnight train, operating everyday with departure from Chamartin station at 22:41

arriving to Lisboa at 7:51

Check the prices here:
http://www.renfe.es/viajes/precios_int.html
cheaper ticket is 55euros.

Chamartin station is in the north of Madrid, have metro station Chamartin with lines 1 and 10.

You may also consider flying to Lisboa, there are several companies doing this route including Spanair and Iberia

http://www.iberia.com/
But also low-cost such as Vueling and EasyJet.

http://www.vueling.com/
these low cost mey be cheaper or similar prices to the train option. I think it can be the best option.

considering the long distance, bus is the worst option, despite is slightly cheaper, 45euros.

I hope this helps.
