About Víctor Díaz
Expertise
I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - refugios

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 6/27/2008

Question
Dear Victor,

Thanks for all the info.

Is there a central number where you can make reservations for all the refugios?

Answer
Hello again

refuges are in general managed by the regional mountain federation, many of them have their own website with detailed information. Some others just a phone number.

Seeking in the federation websites i have found a proposal of route in the huesca pyrinees.
http://www.fam.es/comites/refugios/refugioscircuito.htm

Here is a listing of the most important refuges in Huesca
http://www.fam.es/comites/refugios/refugioangelorus.htm

For lerida
http://www.feec.org/Informacio%20Gral/Refugis/ref_mon.php

Here you may seek also from many of the refuges
http://www.fedme.es/?action=seccion.seccion&subseccion=87

but the listing is big, the area covered wide.. i think you should start with a rough plan of a route, start and destination, how you will get there (public transport ...) and then seek refuges along the route.

Also if you plan to pass through national parks, where bivouac is not allowed or very limited (in case all refuges are full booked).

The french side have better connections with public transport, you could start and finish in the french side passing to the spanish side, where public transport is not as good.

My experience in the pyrinees is limited to the spanish side and i always made 1 day route, and get to the area by car, but have walked in may areas beign my prefered ordesa national park, benasque valley and aigues tortes national park areas.

ask me for more details whenever you want.
