Question Hi
I am travelling from Australia to Europe in Sep/Oct and have 9 nights to fill in. There is myself, my husband and a one year old. We were thinking of the Costa Del Sol or Costa Brava, there are so many different areas to stay though that I am finding it confusing. We would like to relax and also have a look around so were thinking of hiring a car and staying in one resort as a base. The other thought was to fly into Barcelona and have a couple of days there then head to Malaga area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Answer Hello Stacey
Both areas are ok for relax as sept/oct is low season (from 15th of september) and there is much less tourists in the area.
For a more relaxing ambient i would recommend Costa Brava, as this stretch of coast is not as developed as Costa del Sol and have kept much better the old style of the original towns along the coast.
In Costa Brava you may also do some daytrips to Barcelona, Gerona and many towns in the area, such as Figueres, much easily if you hire a car. There is no train along this coast and you should rely on buses to move if you don't hire a car. Also with a car you may discover the beaches along this coast.
Cons: the weather is not likely to be as warm as in Costa del Sol by october, but in normal conditions should be enough for sunbathing and relaxing in the beach.
Costa del Sol have a better public transport, part of the area have trains along the coast, and there are still many places to visit such as Mijas, Ronda, Malaga... for your son of 1yo there is not going to be a real difference between one place or the other, i think that if you had a 3yo son i would have recommend Costa del Sol as there are more things to do with children than just visiting towns.
If your final destination in Spain is Malaga, then for just a couple of days i would get to Costa del Sol and try to relax therea and avoid more planes and more changes of hotel...
