AboutVíctor Díaz Expertise I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links.
I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.
We have decided to use your great suggestion as listed below:
Other option is hiring a car to get to Girona from Madrid, doing monasterio de piedra in your wat rather than Teruel. Then return the car in Barcelona and move from Barna to Madrid by train or plane, you can use the borrowed day from Teruel either in Madrid or Barcelona. This option looks better to me, not so many km, Monasterio is right in the direct route to Barcelona, Teruel means more km by conventional roads and definetly you have not many days to do this.
It could be as follows:
29.Madrid
30.Madrid hire a car and move to Monasterio 1. Monasterio move to Estartit 2. Estartit to Barcelona in the evening, return the car 3. Barcelona 4.
Barcelona move to madrid by train/plane 5. Madrid
My question is - is there a train from Barcelona to Madrid on Sat 4 Oct 2008? Can you recommend a reputable car hire company - I would need to hire car I 30 Sep to 2 Oct 2008.
Your advice has been excellent and very much appreciated.
Many thanks
Candice
ANSWER: Hello again Candice
Yes, there are several trains daily from Barcelona to Madrid, i have checked for the 4th of October and there are some Web offers (buying online) with tickets from 42,10euros.
If you find difficult to buy tickets online in the renfe website (it's normal, many people complains about it) you may follow the instruction in english that can be found on this website http://maribelsguides.com/
For hiring a car, i think most important hiring car companies are reputable.. avis, hertz, europcar, atesa, ...
a cheap one but with mixed reviews is pepecar
i hope this helps

QUESTION: Thank you Victor - this is all very helpful. Can you advise which stations are closest to where we will be staying in Barcelona: Gat Xino near Rambla de Raval and in Madrid: Santo Domingo near Calla Gran Via?
Many thanks
Candice
Answer Hello again
Gat Xino is between metro stations Sant Anoni(L2)and Liceu(L3)
Santo Domingo hostal nearest metro station is Callao (L3,L5) and also metro station Santo Domingo (L2).
if you ask for train stations, depends on your destination. For the Barcelona-Madrid, are
Barcelona-Sants (metro station sants-stacio L3,L5)
and
Madrid-Atocha (metro station atocha-renfe L1).
