I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - travel to malaga

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 8/25/2008

Question
Morning - My family and I are looking to go to Malaga for a week. I am inquiring about costs. We are coming in from the US, so I know airfare is fairly expensive right now. What are costs around the town? We are staying in a time share and plan on cooking some meals. What are prices in the grocery stores like? How much is beer in the bars and in the grocery store? Are there any tips you have to lessen cost? Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hello Christie

I don't have the knowledge of how expensive is the Malaga area, but in comparison probably cheaper than many other big cities.

Prices also depends if it's low or high season. Low season normally starts from 15 september.

Prices in groceries: take a look at this one, very popular in spain
and with some in the Malaga area
stores in Malaga

prices (enter postal code 29002)

which will give you a good idea of prices in any other groceries

Some other groceries you may find there

or just a local grocery just around the corner
...

Prices of beer in bars, typical glass of beer 'caña' depends a lot on the place of the bar, for locals, tourist area, but not expensive...somethin between 1 and 2 euros probably.
Seems that compared with some other european countries alcoholic drinks are a bargain here. Of course is cheaper in the grocery store, about 0,50cents for 330cl can.

To lessen costs:
Try running water to see if it tastes ok to you, in some coastal areas is known to have a bad taste, despite is safe for drink. In case you tolerate it, use it and don't buy bottled water.
Cook yourself as much food as you can, avoinding expensive restaurants. You may have lunch in restaturants in working day many have menu of the day, from 8 to 11 euros is a reasonable price.
If you spent the day travelling, you may bring your food with you, a couple of sandwiches and fruit for example, find a park where you can sit and have lunch. Bring your food with you to the beaches too.

If you plan to visit places, check is there is one day which is for free.

I hope this helps a bit.
