Expert: Víctor Díaz - 9/10/2008
Question Hello,
Im looking for the cheapest option to travel from Granada to Madrid. I have 2 girls aged 3y & 1y 5m. Im going to Granada on March 2009 and would love to go to Madrid.
Thank you.
Answer Hello Nadwah
The cheapest option is normally buses, but given the distance and the fact that you are travelling with two children i think this is not the best option.
Every transport ticket depends a lot on the dates and in some cases in the hours of the travel. For train tickets you can get very good discounts by buying online with some days in advance, web and star offers make this a very good choice and much more confortable than buses. Tickets are normally available with 62days in advance.
The other option is by plane, but there isn't a great offer of flights from granada to Madrid, i mean, there is no low cost, but you should check this option just in case. To get to the airport there are buses as it's a bit far from the city center. In Madrid the airport is very well connected by metro and it's not too far from the center.
I would check:
trains with renfe
http://www.renfe.es/
these are currently the two daily trains to Madrid
train/dep/arrival
ALTARIA 09213 06.42 11.21
ALTARIA 09237 18.00 22.48
a working random day gives a cost of 37,10 with star offer, 24,70 with web offer and 61,80 normal price.
It takes almost 5h.
for planes
this is the link for the Granada airport (sometimes found with the official name of federico garcia lorca granada/jaen airport)

Iberia and Spanair have flights to Madrid.
http://www.iberia.com/
a working day randomly chosen gives tickets from 140euros
http://www.spanair.com
says this line is not operating anymore from 14 of september but i don't know if it's a seasonal line and there would be flights in march.
for buses
http://www.alsa.es
many buses everyday, from 16,17euros currently takes 5hours.
After reviewing all this data, i would choose trains as the best relationship of price/confort and more if you are able to take a web offer.
If a web or star offer is not available or the schedules doesn't fit yours then choose bus.
I hope this helps.
