Travel to Spain - How to get to Madrid from Denia
Expert: Víctor Díaz - 9/12/2008
Question I have to take our two Philippina maids to Madrid from Denia next week-end as their tourist visas run out then and they have to return to the Philippines. We have booked them flights from Madrid airport next Sunday evening (21st September). Is it easier to travel by bus or train? I'm looking for a journey with the fewest possible breaks so we don't have to keep dragging suitcases around!
Hope you can help us.
Answer Hello Jane
There is no direct train from Denia to Madrid, the local train in Denia is a regional train FGV that gets you to the south to Alicante from where you could take the direct train to madrid with Renfe.
the FGV train to Alicante

looks like there is a ton of stations in the middle and that trip may take you forever to do. Probably a bus to Valencia or Alicante from Denia and then train should be a better option in case you want to use trains.
Alsa buses connects Denia with Alicante, Valencia and Madrid.

Denia-Madrid
DENIA MADR-E.SUR 09:30 17:15 33,89€
DENIA MADR-E.SUR 13:30 21:00 33,89€
DENIA MADR-E.SUR 22:30 06:00 33,89€
destination is Madrid Estacion Sur de Autobuses, located at Mendez Alvaro area (metro station L6 with the same name).
From there a taxi ride for about 25euros with metro for 2euros would take you to the airport. You must know which terminal as T1,2,3 are far from the new big T4/T4s
If you click on the route you may see why it takes more hours than (at least i ) expected, that's because those buses go first to Alicante in order to get to Madrid, that's doing many km for nothing.
If you get to Alicante or Valencia and then get a train you'll arrive to Atocha station, which is about the same distance to the airport so there is not really a big difference in that aspect. The only porblem is that you must get from the bus station at Alicante or Valencia to the train station, using again taxis, metro...
Probably the fastest route could be Denia-Valencia-Madrid.
Denia-Valencia in 2 hours with Alsa, the another bus to Madrid with AutoRes

another 4 hours.
but you gain only 2 hours in total. Similar if you take a train to Mdrid from Valencia.
I think that if you want to made this trip as direct as possible, direct buses to Madrid from Denia are not a bad option, and the time needed for this trip is acceptable.
i hope this helps.
