Travel to Spain - Traveling from Madrid airport to Rota, Spain
Expert: Víctor Díaz - 9/11/2008
Question QUESTION: Hi and thanks for your help. I am currently living in Rota, Spain. My husband is in the air force and we live about 5 minutes outside of base. Anyway, I have a friend flying into Madrid in December and she needs to get to Rota. I have researched some information online but I'd really like to have the advice of someone who lives in Spain. Can you please tell EXACTLY (the more details the better!) how she can get from the Madrid airport to Rota? I am also willing to drive and pick her up in Puerto or Jerez (I really only know how to get to the airport though) but preferably which ever is the closest to me in Rota.
Thanks Again! :)
ANSWER: Hello Jessica
Rota have a bus station and connects this town with some others in the area such as Jerez, but if you can get to Jerez by car to get your firend, it will be better.
I think the best option is going to Jerez either by plane or train
option 1 by plane to Jerez
1-arriving to Madrid Barajas
in the same airport take another plane to Jerez, it's a very small airport and there are only flights with Spanair and Iberia

option2, by train to Jerez.
1-arrive to Madrid Barajas
2.1 take taxi to 'Estacion de Atocha', about 25euros, time depends on traffic conditions.
2.2 or take Metro to Atocha-Renfe station, cost:2euros, takes about 30 minutes.
From Barajas T4 or Barajas T1,T2,T3 station (depending on which terminal she arrives), both stations have scalators and elevators.
get to Nuevos Ministerios station and change to L10 (there are elevators and scalators, easy change of platform) get to Tribunal L1 station (lots of scalators, but many people do it with lot of luggage)
get to Atocha-Renfe station.

3.1 check you are in the Atocha long distance station (Atocha is a big station with platforms for commuter trains and platforms for long distance trains) there is a tropical garden inside long distance Atocha station.
4. take the train to Jerez or Puerto

schedules
train/dep/arrival
ALTARIA 09320 10.05 14.14
ALTARIA 09332 16.20 20.50
in case that these trains and planes are not an option, you still may get to Sevilla, there are many more trains daily. From there a bus to Jerez or Rota.

QUESTION: THANK YOU for your help. These directions were VERY precise! I just have one more question. When she arrives in Jerez where will that be? At the airport, close to the airport? Or a totally different location in Jerez?
Answer Hello again
In case she arrives by train, this is located at:
Plaza de la Estación, s/n 11401 Jerez
according to the information provided by the management of (many) train stations in spain Adif
http://www.adif.es/estaciones/index.html
with google maps
http://maps.google.es/maps?hl=es&q=Plaza+de+la+Estaci%C3%B3n,+s%2Fn+11401+Jerez+...
While the train station is in a centrical location, the airport is 9km from there to the north-east quite outseide of the town.
To get to the train station you may use this MichelinMaps route:

i hope this helps a bit.
