I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links. I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.

Travel to Spain - Seville, Madrid and Barcelona

Expert: Víctor Díaz - 6/24/2009

Question
Hi!

My sister and I are spending about five days in Spain in July (arriving on July 10th at 10:30 a.m. in Seville, spending two days then going to Madrid, spending two days, then one day in Barcelona then flying out at night on the 14th and heading to Greece)  I was wondering if you could give us some advice on those three areas as in things we must see/must do, resturaunt/bar recommendations, anything.
Also, we really are interested in doing some sort of activities while in spain outside of just sight seeing, like seeing an authentic flamenco show (any suggestions for that because that is the one thing we are dying to see) anything that would be exciting and will give us some insight into spanish culture. Also, where can we find the best tapas specifically within each city? If there are any sort of really fun day activities, we are looking for anything, especially if its out of the box, you can think of I'd really appreciate the recommendation. Thank you so much!
-Amy

Answer
Hello Amy

You have very limited time to spend in every city so focus just in the most important things, that may also depend on your preferences.
The sightseen buses may be a good idea in your case.

Sevilla: never been there but i know that main things are cathedral,  torre del oro, Plaza de españa, Alcazar,

Madrid: Palacio Real: it worths visit the palace, but if you don't have time to do so, then just visit outside. Plaza mayor, plaza de españa, tempo de debod, puerta del sol, gran via, paseo del prado, cibeles, puerta de alcala, ... the art triangle are prado, thyseen and reina sofia museums. If you don't like too much art museums i recommend just a visit to the main masterpieces of Prado museum and Guernica at Reina Sofia museum.

Barcelona: anything about Gaudi (sagrada familia, pedrera house, park guell..) ramblas, gothic quarter

There are many guides on internet that will confirm this main sights i have told you and will give you more ideas and details.

I like specifically the Maribels guides, with details on where to eat, what to do etc.

Unfortunately you won't have time for any daytrip (cordoba from sevilla, toledo, segovia, el escorial from madrid, tarragona, gerona, montserrat from barcelona).

Flamenco: is from Andalucia region, but good shows can be found as well in Madrid and Barcelona.
Check the official tourism sites i have given you to find more information. In madrid Corral de la Moreria, Cafe chinitas  and Casa Patas are some of the most famous places. Options are dinner+show or only drinks + show.

Tapas in Madrid: a recent thread i have read at fodors forums
http://www.fodors.com/community/europe/tapas-restaurants-in-madrid.cfm

Bullfight: is also some typical of spain, i don't pretend you to assits to a bullfight as it is something that most people find cruel and bloody, but you may do one tour of a bullring and learn some details about bullfights.
in Madrid there are tours at Las Ventas bullring

By the moment i have no ideas about something special that could interest you.

check also the following forums for more ideas
