AboutVíctor Díaz Expertise I live in Madrid, and travel frequently to Valencia. I have also travelled to many places all over spain, if haven't been there i'd try to help anyway providing my knowledge and links.
I enjoy trekking in the mountains, and know pyrinees, Picos de Europa and mountains in the center.
Question Hello, could you help I need to get from Santiago to San Sabastian the quickest route possible, is there a train that goes between the two.
Thanks
Answer Hello Sue, it's a long distance from Santiago to S Sebastian/Donostia and communications are not very good.
There is a direct train with Renfe http://www.renfe.es/
ARCO 00280 departure 09.17 arrives 20.08 cost 46.00 €
cheaper if you are able to find Estrella or Web offers by purchasing online and in advance.
Overall travel time: 11h
As you can see it takes a lot of time, as it's 880km in the shortest route, by car would take about 7h30.
The train route is not as direct and not by the coast but inland via Leon and Vitoria.
Santiago and San Sebastian have airports, but are tiny and with very limited connections with other cities, specially the San Sebastian airport. So there isn't any direct flight.
with Iberia via Madrid it would take from 3h to 4h but it's not cheap, a random search result in about 500euros. http://www.iberia.com
No low cost flying into SS.
Another option is a flight to Bilbao + bus to SS.
direct flight with Iberia takes 1h but it's expensive, about 400euros.
Via Madrid is cheaper, about 250euros but takes from 3h to 4h.
Bus to SS directly from Bilbao airport with Pesa http://www.pesa.net/pesa/home/ctrl_index.php
takes 1h15.
(set origin aropuerto loiu, and destiantion donostia-san sebastian)
By bus http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa
two daily buses
SANTIAGO C S.SEBASTIA 08:30 21:55 57,29euros
and overnight
SANTIAGO C S.SEBASTIA 18:00 06:40 57,29euros
takes 12h30.
I think the best option/cost is by train with renfe
The fastest option is plane to bilbao + bus or flights santiago-madrid-SS. if the budget is not a problem.
