Question Hi
Travelling into Barcelona early oct. Staying for 3 nights, then booking a time share for one week somewhere (this is my problem), then booking a one week timeshare in/around Malaga. Not sure about the week before Malaga. We will rent a car once we get wherever we are, if we havent already done so to leave Barcelona. Wed like to do day trips from whereever we go. Dont just want to do the beach thing - but are not big city people.
What do you think? Whats the best area to stay for a week between barcelona and Malaga? thanks
Answer Hello Janie
I would say that Valencia and Alicante have more things to see than Castellon province.
Castellon province have a couple of very nice towns such as Peñiscola and Morella, but it's mainly a destination for beaches. Castellon city is a good place for living but hasn't anything of interest.
Alicante have very good beaches and also a few places of interest, not much difference from Castellon but at least Alicante city is something more interesting.
Valencia. Is in the middle of the region and if you have a rented car you may explore many parts of this region, for example a daytrip to Peniscola and Morella to the north, another daytrip to Teruel and Albarracin inland, another daytrip to Guadalest, Denia and Elche and Alicante to the south, and another to visit Valencia city, not a first class tourist destination but is the more interesting city in the area.
We are also talking of a long stretch of coast, and you may be offered a charming apartment in Alicante and awful places in Valencia, that would change my opinion in favor of Alicante. If the locations are similar i would choose something near Valencia and use it as a base for exploring the region.
