Travel to Spain - overnight trip from Madrid to Barcelona

Expert: Barcelona - 8/29/2009

Question
Hi! I wonder if you can help me with this.
I plan to go to Spain in October with my husband. We pretty much planned our trip. The only thing we cannot decide on is the trip from Madrid to Barcelona. We want to save on the night in the hotel and take overnight train or bus. From what I found the train sleeping option is bulk bed in 6 bed compartment on the overnight train. There is also First Class tickets for just 2 euros more. Is it regular seat? comfortable for sleeping? I was looking for pictures but found none.
The overnight bus is the cheapest deal but the question is the same: are the seats comfortable for sleeping? Again, picture would be the best answer, but I did not find any.
Can you give me some details, pros and cons of either way of travel?
Thank you!

Answer
Hi,

If you need information about where to sleep, what to do and what to see in MAdrid and BArcelona, check my sites:

http://www.barcelona-on-line.es
http://www.madrid-on-line.com

I can't answer you about your train question, but my guess is that First Class must be seated, no bunk beds.

About comfort... well, for me it's not comfortable to sleep seated. You won't be able in any case to recline a lot your seats, only a little.

Here are a couple of links... call or send them a mail to find out, it will be the best:

Bus company: www.asa.es
Trains: www.renfe.es

In any case, it's quite a long trip (600 kms). Both options are Ok, and if price is an issue... do take the bus !

Enjoy your trip.
