Traveling with Children/Traveling with my sister

Question
Hi Pam - I found this link when I was searching for information about traveling with a related minor and was hoping you could help me.

My sister (17) and I (21) are planning on a trip to Costa Rica in June/July of 2009. She turns 18 on July 2nd, so the only problem we would have with traveling with a minor would be when we left the US. When we come back, she would have already turned 18. I was just wondering what the laws/requirements are for traveling with a related minor. My parents would drop us off at the airport, which could help in the process, not really sure. Any info you have on this would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Answer
You shouldn't have any problem as long as she is older than 16.  If you want to be doublely sure, you can have your parents go to a notary and have them sign a form that says you have permission to travel with your sister out of the country.  But at her age, there shouldn't be any problem at all.  Just be sure that you both have a valid passport and all should be fine.

Have a great trip!
