Question HI,
My 10 year old son is traveling to Brazil for vacation - where his father
resides - with our babysitter and family. (They are also Brazilian.) My son has
both U.S. and Brazilian passports and I have a letter in which his father grants
me unlimited travel authorization. However, I now see that to allow him to
travel with babysitter, my signature/authorization alone may not suffice, and
think it next to impossible to get his father's signature unless by scanned
document or fax. Please help!
Answer This is a tricky one. Typically we recommend an affadavit be signed by both parents that shows that they child has permission to travel outside the US. If one parent has sole custody or the other parent is deceased, then you just have to have one parent sign the affadavit and show proof by having a copy of the death certificate or custody agreement. Now, is the letter from your childs father notarize? If so than that should be fine as long as you have an affadavit signed and notarized saying that you also give permission.
I would call the airline that your son is traveling on just to be sure.
