Question
I leave in West Texas and I have a globe Willow in my front yard approximately 8 years old, it had been doing great years before but for some very strange reason this years it seems as if though the tree think that we are in the midst of Autumn. We have had very hot temperatures and strong hot winds this spring and summer as well. All of a sudden in late June the tree started dropping its leaves and almost looks bare. I have checked to see if the tree is still alive and it is. I also have an Arizona Ash in the front yard about 65 feet apart from the willow and it is doing fine. Can you help to get my tree back to the beautiful state it has been in in prior years.

Willow trees need a great deal of water. I would think the dry, hot weather is the problem. I would water the tree with 1 inch of water every fourth day--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. If you have not done so mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. This will help hold moisture around the roots.
