Question I have a 6 in. live oak that is about 15 ft. tall. It sits next to our pool that we had installed (post tree install). It is roughly 10-12 ft. away from the pool.
Is the tree going to cause problems with the pool integrity due to root growth?
It is a gorgeous tree that I hate to have to move or cut but I also don't want to have cracks in my pool in a few years.
Answer It will not be a problem for many years down the road. Live oak has a average spread of about 60 feet at maturity (60+ years old). Which means the roots will extend about 30 feet from the trunk. Roots are normally about 1 to 1 1/2 times the spread of the limbs. and the roots on the outer most extent are small. If it is a vinyl pool you would have more of a problem. A cement pool would have very little if any problems with roots. But in your condition I can not see that it will be a problem for many years if at all. Your problem will be leaves in the pool from the tree not the roots.
