Question my neighbors bradford pear was cut down 2 years ago and
the roots have been invading my yard to the point of going
under and cracking my concrete patio all the way up to my
house. He didn't have the stump grinded. anyway, there's a
big thick above ground root that has grown under our joined fence and has started doing damage to it. I have been fighting with this root problem all year. I don't have
money to have it cleared out professionally. what can I do
to destroy the system. please, the quickest way possible.
Thank you.
Answer I am assuming that the tree has re-sprouted foliage and is still growing. If not the roots system is really dead and not growing and the damage you are seeing is from the old tree roots. Living tree roots can be killed either by spraying an herbicide called Roundup on the foliage of the new sprouts or by painting Roundup on the cut surfaces of roots that you cut into. The herbicide will be transported to the rest of the root system and kill the roots. IF you spray Roundup make sure it does not get on other green plants not wanted to be killed. Roundup will kill any green plant it gets on. You do not need to dig the root system out over time it will decay when it is dead. Check with your local nursery for Roundup.
